Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across the country, carried out under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI. The survey is to encourage large scale citizen participation, ensure sustainability of initiatives taken towards garbage free cities and create a sense of competition between cities to create sustainable action. Cities are assessed on three aspects: Service Level Progress, Citizen's Voice and Certification including star rating of Garbage Free City, Open Defecation Status, and Water Conservation Efforts.
