HCL Foundation through its Project Clean NOIDAlaunched a new initiative – the ‘Chakachak’ Village program. The objective of this initiative is to manage the municipal solid waste getting generated in a sustainable manner through community participation. As part of this, it introduced four ‘Jatayu’ vehicles for automatic litter picking covering 61 urban villages in Noida. Ms Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson, HCL Technologiesalong with Mr Alok Varma, Project Director, HCL Foundation flagged off these vehicles at the HCL Campus in Sector 126, Noida.
‘Jatayu’ forms an important arm of the Clean NOIDA program during the pandemic as it allows to manage solid waste and maintain hygiene standards in the city’s villages while avoiding interaction between waste and workers. Additionally, as part of the Chakachak initiative, a team of 20-25 people from Clean NOIDA surveys the hygiene situation at each urban village in the city and undertake by-weekly cleaning and beautification drives. The team also distributes dustbins, cloth bags to discourage the use of plastic bags, share regular messages regarding SWM within local WhatsApp groups and organize virtual workshops to sensitize citizens against open waste dumping and effective waste segregation methods.
